Immortality (future life) is basically when someone wants to live forever and accomplish everything they want to work for. Even if the person himself dies, his spirit is still and will always live on. Death is not the end, it's a new beginning. The egyptians and chinese people were freaking out because they thought that they had to do tons of things to be able to have this after life. And so that their soul can live on forever. In Evanescence's song My Immortal, it talks about someone who dies and has left their 'life' behind and their spirit is still living and haunting her. She wants it to go away but it doesn't. To her, the life is sometimes there with her and sometimes not. But when it is there with her she wants it gone and doesn't want to remember the things from the past. Immortality is also kind of having memories in your head of someone that you can't get out or forget about.
Some people think that they can achieve immortality by freezing their bodies and many years later have someone unfreeze them and then continue their lives.
I found a quote: "What we do for ourselves dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal." -Albert Pine.

In regard to Beowulf - hero or braggart:
ReplyDeleteExcellent citation of quotations to support your position. Good list of hero qualities. I especially appreciate your recognition of Beowulf's knowledge of himself and his abilities -- he is just "telling it like it is."
